St. La Salle Hall of De La Salle University

Structural Retrofit of Beams and Columns

The St. La Salle Hall of the De La Salle University (DLSU) was designed by Archt. Tomas Mapua and was built in 1916 along Taft Avenue in Manila.

Based on records, the structure was originally designed as a three storey building and over the years an additional floor was added. Angel Lazaro & Associates, the Structural Consultant of DLSU, investigated the structural integrity of the building and made the recommendation to retrofit and preserve the structure.

DLSU also intends to apply to the National Heritage Institute (NHI) for recognition of their structure as a National Heritage Building.

EC Structural Composites, Inc. introduced the utilization of the Tyfo Systems SCH 11UP to strengthen the beams and columns from Ground to Fourth Level instead of using conventional concrete and steel jacketing due to the need to carefully preserve the building and to incur minimal disruptions.
